The thought of starting a farm was nowhere in our thoughts or dreams when we decided to sell everything and move to Hawaii almost two years ago. We both love Hawaii, love the culture, and love to work hard, but starting the farm was not our focus when we decided to move here. My wife, a registered dietitian and I, in a public service position see the effects of inadequate income to the high cost of living in Hawaii. From the housing prices, and the high cost of nutritious foods. Sadly, families are faced with choices: paying for housing, food to nourish the family, enriching our children’s lives, and other essentials. This puts already vulnerable populations at higher risk for health problems. This is not only a challenge for low-income families, this is a challenge for all families as well. We believe everyone should have access to high-quality food and with that in mind we decided we would start a farm to help keep produce more affordable.
To grow high quality, nutritious foods at affordable prices and help expand Hawaii’s sustainable agricultural system.
